Following the updated naming convention of the newest FileMaker, FMPerception 26 is now available for all users!

This update adds two major changes: First, support for FileMaker 2026. Get an overview of all the developer-focused features FileMaker 2026 has to offer using the new Database Design Reports (DDRs).  Second, native support for Apple Silicon! Now users with M-series Macs can utilize their processing power for smoother analysis across the board. Users with large multi-file solutions will feel the difference.

Get FMPerception now. If you already have a current license, an update will be available automatically.

A full list of changes is below.

Major Changes

Important Notes:

- FMPerception 26 (for macOS) is now deployed as a Universal Binary, with native support for Apple Silicon processors.

- As part of this change, the previously used analytics libraries were removed, along with the Settings UI for disabling them.

- The Diff functionality in FMPerception has been marked as "Deprecated".  If you want to diff two versions of a solution, you should use FMComparison instead.

FileMaker 26 Support:

- FMPerception now supports the latest features in FileMaker 2026.

- The columns in the datagrid that display whether a layout field is enterable in Browse or Find mode have been changed from boolean (with a dot) to text fields so that the new Edit/Select Only/View Only/Set by Calculation values can be shown.

- NOTE: DDRs exported from FileMaker versions before 2026 contain the information necessary to determine that a layout field’s enterability is controlled via calculation, but the calculation *itself* is not part of the DDR unless the DDR was exported from FileMaker 2026 or later

Other Changes:

- Added a column for "Step Text" to the Step List, as the "Name" column removes returns (to aid in displaying as much information as possible in the grid).  The "Step Text" column surfaces the raw step text as provided by the DDR.

- The code for the Report Card and Indirection Sources was updated in an attempt to fix the intermittent crashes some users have encountered.  If you're still having crashes in these sections, please contact support.

- Thanks to Bison Takahata for reporting the issue with Indirection Sources.

- In some cases, a button on a layout that directly called a script in a remote file would not appear as a reference to that script. Thanks to Herr Hennings for reporting this.

Not Implemented:

- While the DDR contains the collapse state of script steps in the script editor, I have not added that information to FMPerception.  If you can think of a reason to include it, let me know.  Currently, FMPerception does not have a good UI for showing this kind of script information or for toggling hiding/showing of script steps.
